Eligibility, posts and salary
Use this cycle’s Annexure A for qualification and medical suitability. The 18–36 range was specific to CEN 08/2024, reflecting a three-year exceptional upper-age relaxation over the ordinary range; do not reuse it as the default for a different recruitment. Category and other relaxations follow the CEN clauses.
Level 1 initial basic pay was ₹18,000. This does not promise net take-home pay or a particular posting. The original 32,438 vacancies should be read with later official post/category revisions.
Exam pattern and syllabus
| Subject | Questions / marks |
|---|---|
| General Science | 25 |
| Mathematics | 25 |
| General Intelligence and Reasoning | 30 |
| General Awareness and Current Affairs | 20 |
| Total | 100 |
The ordinary CBT duration is 90 minutes, or the specified 120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates accompanied by a scribe. Each wrong answer loses one-third mark. The distribution is indicative. This notice’s qualifying percentages are UR/EWS 40% and OBC-NCL/SC/ST 30%, with conditional PwBD relaxation. Do not import the ST 25% threshold from another railway CEN.
The syllabus includes arithmetic, elementary algebra/geometry/statistics, reasoning and data interpretation, Class 10 Physics/Chemistry/Life Sciences, and current affairs. See paragraph 14.1 for the full illustrative list.
Selection, PET and results
The route comprises CBT, qualifying PET, document verification and medical examination, subject to exemptions and other CEN provisions. The July Chandigarh result provisionally shortlists candidates for PET and directs subsequent PET/DV/medical/panel activity to the relevant Railway Recruitment Cell. A shortlist is not an appointment.
Candidates must use their RRC’s individual schedule and call letter. Exemptions for eligible groups follow the official rules and cannot be inferred from a general fitness claim. The initial CBT shortlist is not evidence that every subsequent stage is complete.

Distinguish the newer Level 1 cycle
CEN 09/2025 is separate, despite also being discussed as Group D. Its official objection notice records CBT from 3–25 August 2026 and an answer-key/objection window of 7–17 September. That window has closed. Do not apply that timeline to CEN 08/2024.
