Age limits by cadre
| Cadre | Ordinary age rule |
|---|---|
| Office Assistant | 18–28 |
| Officer Scale I | Above 18 and below 30 |
| Officer Scale II | Above 21 and below 32 |
| Officer Scale III | Above 21 and below 40 |
Education and experience
Office Assistant and Scale I require a recognised bachelor’s degree in any discipline or equivalent. Neither entry-level cadre prescribes prior banking experience. Scale II General Banking Officer requires at least 50% aggregate in the degree and two years as an officer in a bank or financial institution. Scale III requires at least 50% and five years of relevant officer experience. Specialist Scale II posts have their own qualification and experience rows.
Qualification deadline
The detailed notification states 21 September 2026 as the educational-qualification cut-off. The later registration extension says that other conditions remain unchanged. Candidates whose eligibility depends on the extension should use IBPS’s official clarification route rather than assume that every cut-off moved.
Local-language proficiency
For Office Assistant and Scale I, the prescribed local language is an essential condition. The notice describes recognised school-study evidence and the specified certificate route. It also sets out the period available to selected candidates who need to acquire proficiency and the bank’s permitted extension within probation. Match the language with the bank, not just your preferred test language.
Relaxations and documentary evidence
The notice provides five years of age relaxation for SC/ST, three for OBC non-creamy layer and ten for eligible persons with benchmark disabilities, with other clauses for specified groups. Eligibility for a relaxation, fee concession and reservation benefit are separate questions. Use the relevant certificate format and check the rules for combining concessions.
Before relying on an eligibility conclusion
- Identify the exact cadre and, for specialists, the discipline.
- Check the age-reckoning date and permitted date-of-birth interval.
- Match the degree result date, not just the course-completion year.
- Check local-language evidence and the bank’s requirements.
- Keep documentary support for every claimed relaxation.
