Changing Schools: A Practical Planning Checklist for Parents

Plan the admission and withdrawal processes together. Avoid withdrawing from the current school before the new school confirms the offer and its conditions in writing.

Build a timeline

Record the proposed joining date, application deadline if published, assessment or interaction date and fee due date. Ask the current school about notice requirements and document processing time. Requirements vary by school and class; this checklist is not a universal admission rule.

Check documents directly

Work out overlapping costs

List pending fees, notice-period costs, new admission charges and transport changes. Ask both schools for their applicable withdrawal or refund terms. Keep receipts and written acknowledgements. Do not presume a deposit will be returned before a new payment is due.

Prepare the child for the transition

Discuss the new routine, school journey, lunch arrangements and whom to approach for help. Ask the school about induction and a named point of contact. Plan a follow-up conversation after joining to check how the child is settling in.

Keep admission documents with the schools through their official channels. Shiksha Niketan’s contact form is for questions and corrections, not document submission or applications. Use our campus comparison checklist while deciding.

Put your shortlist to work

Browse available profiles, save suitable options and compare the same class or course. You can do this without submitting an enquiry.
