Detailed guide: UPSC ESE 2027: Notification, 480 Vacancies, Exam Dates & Eligibility
The ordinary age condition is at least 21 and below 30 on 1 August 2026; the inclusive birth-date limits are 2 August 1996–1 August 2005 before relaxation. IES requires a recognised postgraduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics or Econometrics. ISS requires a bachelor’s degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as a subject, or the specified Statistics master’s degree. Read the full rule on the duration and scope of Statistics study; a single incidental module may not satisfy it.

Applications use the UPSC portal linked from the examination page. Syllabus
Detailed guide: UPSC CSE 2026–27: Notification, Exam Dates, Eligibility, Syllabus & Latest Updates
IES preparation includes the official General Economics and Indian Economics syllabi alongside English and General Studies. ISS preparation follows Statistics I–IV, including probability, statistical methods and the detailed specialised areas in Appendix I. Use the correct service papers: IES here means Indian Economic Service, not Engineering Services Examination.
Selection process
Written-qualified candidates follow the service-specific result and application-updation instructions before viva voce. The final outcome depends on the prescribed written/viva marks, eligibility and medical requirements. Do not combine IES and ISS result lists or infer an interview appointment from a generic result notice.
Salary and service conditions
The notification recruits to the Junior Time Scale of the two services. Consult the applicable service rules and appointment terms for salary and allowances; no single take-home estimate is asserted here.
Preparation resources and previous papers
Download official UPSC question papers. Match the examination and paper before practising. Use the notification syllabus as a checklist, work within the relevant time limit and analyse errors before repeating mocks. Earlier cut-offs are benchmarks, not a forecast of the current qualifying score.
2027 planning
The calendar lists notification on 10 February 2027, application closure on 2 March and the examination from 18 June over three days. The next notification must establish the vacancy distribution and final rules.
