SSC Stenographer Salary 2026: Grade C and D Pay Levels

SSC Stenographer 2026 pay levels: Grade D Level 4 and department-specific Grade C Levels 6 or 7, sourced to SSC’s vacancy statement.

At a glance

Source review: 6 October 2026. The post-wise pay levels below come from SSC’s tentative Stenographer 2026 vacancy statement dated 4 June 2026. The statement is dated evidence, not a guarantee that vacancy totals cannot change.

SSC Stenographer salary 2026: Grade D posts in the reviewed statement are at Level 4. Grade C is Level 6 or Level 7 depending on the department. A single Grade C salary figure therefore hides an important post-wise difference.

Classification

The recruitment notice classifies Grade C as Group B, non-gazetted, and Grade D as Group C. The posts are spread across participating ministries, departments and organizations. Pay and service conditions must be checked against the exact post offered, not just the examination name.

Basic pay, allowances and in-hand salary

A pay level is not a guaranteed monthly take-home amount. The applicable pay-matrix cell determines basic pay; admissible allowances contribute to gross pay, and deductions affect the net amount. Posting, accommodation, department and personal circumstances can change the calculation.

This page does not reuse an old dearness-allowance rate or promise a single city-wise in-hand figure. Use the appointing department’s applicable pay orders and appointment documents for an actual calculation. The vacancy statement establishes the listed pay level, not every future payroll component.

How to compare preferences

  1. Identify Grade C or Grade D and the exact department.
  2. Read the corresponding pay-level row in SSC’s vacancy statement.
  3. Check post suitability, qualifications, skill requirements and service conditions separately.
  4. Consider posting and duties alongside pay.
  5. Recheck later official vacancy statements before making a cycle-specific preference decision.

SSC says it does not collect State-wise/Zone-wise vacancies in this statement; candidates should contact the user department for those details. Do not infer a guaranteed city posting from a national vacancy row.

Vacancy figures are dated, not salary guarantees

The 4 June statement totals 1,021 Grade D and 149 Grade C vacancies. These are tentative figures in that specific statement. They replace neither later official revisions nor individual appointment conditions, and they are not a current invitation to apply.
