Choose the correct year, session and subject. An official question paper is not automatically an answer key. Keep coaching explanations separate from UPSC-issued keys, and do not carry an old application deadline into a future study plan.
Confirm that Mathematics is in your combination
IMA, INA and AFA use the Mathematics paper; OTA does not. For the three-paper entries, the paper is worth 100 marks and lasts two hours. The notification specifies matriculation-level content.
Build the foundations
Work through number operations, fractions, ratios and basic algebra before relying on timed shortcuts. Keep formula notes for geometry, mensuration and trigonometry, with an example showing the conditions under which each formula applies.
Practise by error type
Separate calculation slips, concept gaps and misunderstood wording. Re-solve missed questions without looking at the solution, then test the same concept in a different question. An answer remembered from a previous attempt is not evidence that the method is understood.
Progress to mixed and timed work
Begin with untimed accuracy where concepts are weak, then introduce timed sets and full official papers. Simulate the restriction on calculators. Choose questions deliberately and account for the one-third wrong-answer penalty when analysing performance.
Use a sustainable review cycle
Revisit difficult topics after a gap, and keep English and GK in the weekly schedule. There is no universal number of questions per day that guarantees qualification; increase practice only when it remains possible to review it properly.
