Choose the correct year, session and subject. An official question paper is not automatically an answer key. Keep coaching explanations separate from UPSC-issued keys, and do not carry an old application deadline into a future study plan.
Plan from available time
List work, study and family commitments, then reserve realistic focused blocks. A sustainable routine is more useful than a timetable that assumes every evening is free. Separate reading, solving and error review so that all three receive attention.
Use paper-specific practice
Each CDS written paper has a two-hour duration under the cited scheme. Practise pacing within that limit, but do not impose one fixed number of seconds on every question. Difficulty and the marks assigned to a question affect a sensible approach.
Review opportunity cost
In timed practice, note which questions consumed time without a reliable answer. Try an initial pass for questions you can solve accurately, followed by a return to harder ones, while observing the actual paper instructions. Treat this as an adaptable strategy, not an official rule.
Budget time for revision
Use brief spaced reviews of formulas, vocabulary and GK notes, and reserve a longer block for recurring errors. If the backlog grows, reduce new material before extending daily study beyond what you can sustain.
Keep accuracy visible
Track penalty-adjusted scores rather than attempted-question counts alone. An extra guess is not automatically progress. Use official keys where available, and separate performance estimates from actual examination results.
