NIFT entrance latest update — 16 October 2026
NTA’s NIFTEE portal currently publishes 2026 scorecards and results. A confirmed 2027 application bulletin was not available in the official sources reviewed. Use this guide to choose your undergraduate route and prepare; the 2026 rules below are labelled as a baseline until NIFT and NTA publish the next cycle.
NIFT entrance at a glance
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Examination | National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Examination (NIFTEE) |
| Examination authority | National Testing Agency, for NIFT |
| B.Des | Design programmes; CAT, GAT and a shortlisted-candidate Situation Test in the 2026 scheme |
| B.F.Tech | Fashion technology; programme-specific GAT route in the 2026 scheme |
| 2027 dates | Not confirmed in the reviewed official material |
| Admission information | NIFT admissions portal |
This guide focuses on first-year undergraduate admission. Postgraduate, lateral-entry and artisan routes have separate criteria and should not be treated as the same application.
What should 2027 applicants check?
Begin by choosing design or fashion technology. They differ in eligibility, test components and the work you should practise. The 2026 documents list Mathematics for the standard Class 12 B.F.Tech route; repeating a generic Physics-and-Mathematics requirement would misstate that published wording. Recheck the 2027 documents when issued.
Notification and admission documents
The NTA NIFTEE portal provides examination notices and candidate services. Read the 2026 NIFT admission guidelines and official 2026 FAQ for the published baseline. NIFT’s admissions page handles institutional admission information.
NIFT 2027 dates to track
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Registration, payment and corrections | Await official 2027 notice |
| Stage 1 examination | No confirmed 2027 date supplied |
| Shortlisting and later tests | Await programme-specific instructions |
| Counselling and seat allocation | Separate NIFT admission schedule |
Do not pay through a third-party page that merely uses “NIFT application” in its title. Reach the active application from the official portal, confirm the year and select the correct programme.
Courses, campuses and seats
B.Des options in the 2026 guidelines include Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design and Fashion Interiors. B.F.Tech concerns fashion technology. Availability varies by campus; check the applicable seat matrix and programme list before ranking preferences.
Compare studio facilities, curriculum, material expenses, accommodation and the complete fee schedule. A campus name alone does not tell you whether it offers your preferred specialisation. If you are comparing other design pathways, read our UCEED guide.
NIFT undergraduate eligibility
The 2026 guidelines set an undergraduate age limit below 24 on 1 August of the admission year, with five-year relaxation for SC/ST/PwD. B.Des accepts the listed Class 12/equivalent routes. B.F.Tech’s standard Class 12 route requires Mathematics; recognised engineering-diploma alternatives are also listed. These are 2026 rules, not a newly announced 2027 determination.
Match your precise qualification to the published alternative that applies to you. Candidates with a diploma, an overseas qualification or a reserved-category claim should read those provisions before relying on a short summary.
Application process and fees
- Choose the UG programme and read its examination route.
- Open the cycle-specific application through NTA’s official NIFTEE page when available.
- Prepare qualification, age, identity and applicable category documents in the requested formats.
- Review the programme selection, upload files, pay the applicable fee and retain final confirmation.
- Track results and NIFT’s separate seat-allocation requirements.
A 2027 application fee is not quoted because the reviewed sources do not announce it. Use the exact category and programme-combination table in the new bulletin. Keep examination fees separate from tuition, hostel and admission payments in your budget.
NIFT exam pattern: 2026 baseline
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| B.Des | CAT 50%, GAT 30%, Situation Test 20% |
| B.F.Tech | GAT Section A 30%, Section B 70% |
| GAT delivery | Computer-based test |
| CAT delivery | Paper-based test |
For B.Des, both CAT and GAT are required for consideration for the later Situation Test. Do not prepare only drawing. Check the programme’s full question and timing table before beginning timed practice.
Syllabus and preparation
Use the official programme scheme to separate creative work from general-ability preparation. Practise explaining an idea visually, observation, composition and material handling alongside reading, quantitative and reasoning exercises relevant to your chosen test.
Set yourself small briefs: improve an everyday object for a specific user, sketch several alternatives, then explain the trade-offs. For aptitude practice, review errors methodically. A polished drawing that misses the brief and a quick calculation with the wrong interpretation are both useful lessons for the next session.
Results, cut-offs and seat allocation
A scorecard is not a seat offer. Follow NIFT’s current registration, choice and allocation notices, then complete document verification and payments by the stated deadlines. Compare previous closing ranks only for the same programme, campus, category and round.
Before accepting an offer, calculate the full cost, including materials and accommodation where needed. Save the offer, receipt and applicable refund terms. Do not use a predicted cut-off as a guarantee that you will receive a preferred campus.
Admit cards, answer keys and next steps
Use NTA candidate services for examination documents and NIFT for admission instructions. Confirm the test stage and programme on each notice; a PG interview notice does not describe a UG Situation Test. Use our course and college comparison checklist when discussing campus choices with your family.
From exam preparation to campus choice
Start with the NIFT New Delhi profile, then compare the programme and campus combination in the official seat matrix. Our design and media course guide helps you compare studio work, technology and media routes. The national programme list does not mean every campus offers every specialisation.
NIFT’s admissions page currently includes 2026 spot-round and fee-extension notices. Read the notice year and programme before taking action: those documents do not announce a first-year 2027 application window.
Official sources
Research basis: NTA’s NIFTEE portal and FAQ, NIFT’s 2026 admission guidelines and current admissions page. The guide deliberately separates those published rules from an unannounced 2027 timetable.
NIFT entrance questions students ask
Are NIFT and UCEED the same exam?

Does every NIFT UG applicant take the same tests?
No. B.Des and B.F.Tech have different published selection components.
Is the 2027 application open?
A confirmed 2027 application notice was not available in the official sources reviewed on 16 October 2026.
