SSC CPO Eligibility 2026: Age, Qualification and CISF Fire Rules

SSC CPO 2026 post-wise eligibility: Delhi Police, CAPF SI and CISF Fire age limits, degree/diploma routes, licence and physical requirements.

At a glance

Source review: 6 October 2026. SSC CPO is the commonly used name for the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces examination. This guide follows the 2026 official notice, including its distinct CISF Fire provisions.

SSC CPO eligibility 2026: the ordinary Delhi Police/CAPF SI(GD) route uses an age range of 20–25 and a bachelor’s degree. CISF SI(Fire) has a different 18–30 age range and specified Science/diploma qualifications. Presenting one graduate/20–25 rule for all posts would exclude or mislead candidates.

Post-wise age limits

Age is assessed on 1 August 2026, before relaxation
PostAgeBirth-date range, endpoints included
Delhi Police SI / CAPF SI(GD)20–25 years2 August 2001–1 August 2006
CISF SI(Fire), male18–30 years2 August 1996–1 August 2008

Age relaxation and category conditions

Selected upper-age concessions in paragraph 5.2
CategoryConcession
SC/ST5 years
OBC3 years
Ex-servicemen3 years after deducting military service from actual age on the application closing date

For Delhi Police SI, the notice separately provides upper-age limits of 35 for eligible widowed/divorced/judicially separated women who have not remarried, and 40 for SC/ST candidates in that category. Eligible departmental Delhi Police candidates with at least three years’ regular continuous service have limits of 30 for UR/EWS, 33 for OBC and 35 for SC/ST. These are not universal concessions for every CAPF/CISF Fire applicant.

Educational qualification and cut-off

Match the qualification route to the exact post
PostEducational requirement
Delhi Police SI / CAPF SI(GD)Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent
CISF SI(Fire), male — route 1Bachelor’s degree in Science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, or equivalent
CISF SI(Fire), male — route 2Matriculation or equivalent plus a three-year diploma in the specified engineering disciplines, or the equivalent examination described in paragraph 7.2

The qualification must be acquired by the application closing date, 30 September 2026. Appearing candidates had to be declared passed by that cut-off and be able to produce documentary evidence. A result merely being processed is insufficient. Age and qualification therefore use different reference dates.

CISF Fire: the diploma and higher-qualification distinction

The diploma route lists Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Automobile, Chemical, Mining, Aeronautical and Telecommunication Engineering. Paragraph 7.2 says relevant B.Tech/M.Tech qualifications may be allowed as value addition subject to the basic diploma qualification being present. Do not simplify this into “any engineering degree is sufficient.” Check the exact qualification and equivalence evidence against the notice.

Delhi Police male candidates: driving licence

Male candidates for Delhi Police SI must hold a valid LMV driving licence for motorcycle and car on the date fixed for PE&MT. The notice says male candidates without that valid licence are eligible for CAPF SI only. This is a post-specific condition, not a licence requirement for all candidates.

Physical and medical requirements

The selection process includes PST/PET and medical examination. Physical standards vary by post, sex and the relaxation category. For example, the standard male chest requirement is 80/85 cm for Delhi Police/CAPF SI and 81/86 cm for CISF Fire. The notice has separate height tables and category exceptions; do not treat one height figure as a universal rule.

Review pages 18–21 for the complete standards and documentary conditions. Ex-servicemen are exempt from PET but still have to meet the stated physical and medical standards and written-test requirements. This guide does not assess an individual’s medical fitness; the designated authorities do that under the recruitment process.

Nationality and verification checklist

Paragraph 4 covers Indian citizens and subjects of Nepal or Bhutan; the latter require a Government of India eligibility certificate before appointment. Keep original birth-date, qualification, category/service and post-specific documents. Equivalent and open/distance qualifications have recognition conditions, so an admission certificate alone does not establish eligibility.

Does every post require the same bachelor’s degree?

No. SI(Fire) has specific Science or diploma routes in paragraph 7.2.

Is the driving licence needed at application time?

The Delhi Police male-candidate rule specifies the PE&MT date. Read paragraph 7.8 and document-verification instructions together.
