Where the official syllabus is located
The syllabus is part of the CDS II 2026 notification, in Appendix I. Open the official UPSC notification PDF and find the scheme, standard and subject syllabus. Keep the full notice so that the syllabus is not separated from the eligibility and examination instructions.

Choose the correct year, session and subject. An official question paper is not automatically an answer key. Keep coaching explanations separate from UPSC-issued keys, and do not carry an old application deadline into a future study plan.
Choose the right document
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Notification and syllabus | Defines rules, subject scope and paper structure for the named cycle |
| Question paper | Shows the questions asked in a particular session |
| Official answer key | Provides UPSC’s answers when released for that paper |
| Coaching solution | An independent explanation; not an official key or instruction |
Read the academy table first
The three-paper route has English, GK and Mathematics. OTA has English and GK. All listed papers are objective, but the Mathematics syllabus is matriculation level while other papers are approximately graduate level. Check the relevant academy before printing or purchasing study material.
Check filenames and editions
Confirm that the heading inside the PDF matches the year and session on the link. A filename alone is not proof of authenticity. If a secondary download differs from the UPSC document, use the authority’s version and check for an amendment. Avoid treating an old saved PDF as the latest notice simply because a webpage title has changed.
Use the PDF for planning
Convert each detailed syllabus area into a revision task and pair it with official past questions. Keep the original session on every paper in your folder. Do not rename historical papers as 2026 or 2027 papers, and do not describe a question-only PDF as “with solutions”.

Can I use the same rules for a later examination?
Use this as preparation guidance and recheck the notification for the actual session you enter.
