What matters in the 2027 rules?

The Consortium’s published UG question format retains five sections and 120 questions. This guide follows that published scheme rather than treating discussions about future reforms as adopted rules. Also note the exact admission year on the form: CLAT 2027 is not an examination scheduled for December 2027.

Notification and official instructions

Use the CLAT 2027 application instructions, UG eligibility rules and published question format together. Keep a copy of the instructions used when applying. NLU brochures cover the specific programmes, reservation policies and institutional fees.

Plan to submit before the final day so there is time to resolve an upload or payment problem. Save the completed application and transaction acknowledgement.

NLUs, courses and seats

Compare each participating NLU’s degree, location, tuition, hostel charges and reservation rules before deciding your preference order. The Consortium states that seat numbers and category distribution can change before final allotment. Use the current institutional brochures, not an old aggregate seat figure.

CLAT does not cover every law school or every law degree. Confirm the admission route directly with any institution outside the participating list. The CUET UG guide explains a different university-admission route; it is not interchangeable with CLAT.

CLAT 2027 UG eligibility

The official UG criteria specify 45% in Class 12/equivalent, or 40% for SC/ST/PwD candidates, with no upper age limit. Students appearing in March/April 2027 may apply but must provide passing evidence at admission. Check the full rules for nationality and institutional reservations; foreign-national and NRI-sponsored admission routes require particular attention.

How to apply and application fees

Check before payment: the Consortium says the programme, category and BPL field cannot be changed after submission and payment. The application fee is non-refundable and non-adjustable. Review these fields against your documents before completing the transaction.

  1. Open the official CLAT 2027 portal and select the UG route.
  2. Register using your own accessible contact details. Match names and qualification details to your documents.
  3. Upload the photograph, signature and applicable certificates in the formats specified.
  4. Review the programme and category carefully, pay and finally submit before the deadline.
  5. Save the application and revisit the portal for admit-card and subsequent notices.

The application fee is ₹4,000 for General/OBC and ₹3,500 for SC/ST/BPL/PwD candidates, with applicable transaction charges. Previous question papers cost an additional ₹500; they are not included in the application fee.

CLAT 2027 exam pattern

Published section distribution
ItemDetails
English Language22–26 questions, approximately 20%
Current Affairs including GK28–32, approximately 25%
Legal Reasoning28–32, approximately 25%
Logical Reasoning22–26, approximately 20%
Quantitative Techniques10–14, approximately 10%
Marking+1 correct; −0.25 incorrect

Section ranges are indicative, not five separately guaranteed question counts. Practise complete papers as well as individual sections.

CLAT syllabus and preparation

The official UG syllabus centres on comprehension, reasoning and applying information. Legal reasoning does not require prior specialist legal study; quantitative work uses school-level mathematical ideas. Build reading accuracy before trying to increase speed.

A practical routine combines a passage set, current-affairs revision, legal or logical reasoning and a short quantitative exercise. When reviewing a mock, identify whether the error came from a missed qualifier, unsupported inference, weak calculation or rushing. Rework the passage before looking for a shortcut.

Results, cut-offs and NLU admission

After results, follow the Consortium’s counselling instructions, deadlines and preference process. The rank needed for an NLU depends on programme, category, domicile rules where applicable and the allotment round. Previous closing ranks are comparison data, not a promise.

Budget for institutional costs before accepting a seat. Read the exact payment, withdrawal and reporting rules for the offer you receive. Keep acknowledgements so you can establish which actions were completed.

Admit cards, papers and application checks

Download the admit card from your official candidate account once released. Check the exam centre and instructions rather than relying on the preferred city entered in the form. Use authorised papers and timed reading practice; avoid claims that a coaching purchase guarantees a rank. For course-comparison questions, use our college checklist.

Plan the cost of a law degree

Read our NLSIU Bengaluru profile for a named five-year law programme and its published costs. Compare it using the law and public-policy course guide; a BA in policy and an LLB serve different qualification goals.

Official sources

The linked Consortium application instructions, eligibility, question format and syllabus support this guide. Institutional brochures supply course fees, reservations and final seat details.
