The main descriptive test adds three tasks, 30 marks and 30 minutes: an email, situation analysis, and either report or précis writing from the stated choices. The full main examination is 230 marks over 3 hours 30 minutes. Main sectional minima include each objective section and the descriptive paper. Objective wrong answers lose one-quarter of the marks assigned; blanks have no penalty.

Practice by stage
Use preliminary-style sets to practise speed and accuracy in the subjects specified in the current notice. For Main, use its actual section and timing requirements rather than simply repeating preliminary sets. Keep an error log covering concept gaps, calculation mistakes, misread instructions and time spent. Reattempt the weak areas after revision.
How to evaluate a memory-based paper
Check the publisher, stated examination date, stage, language and whether the set is a reconstruction or a mock. Read the solution method critically. A remembered question can differ from the original wording, and a coaching answer is not an official SBI key.
Recruitment status and study material are separate
A practice set does not announce selection or a new application window. Open the SBI Careers PO advertisement for current candidate instructions. The IBPS calendar is not SBI’s timetable.
A practical weekly paper routine
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| First sitting | Attempt the paper or relevant sections without solutions; use timing appropriate to the source paper |
| Same-day review | Separate knowledge gaps, misreading, calculation mistakes and unanswered questions |
| Targeted revision | Return to the official syllabus topic and practise similar questions |
| Repeat check | Reattempt the missed questions after a gap and compare accuracy, not just total attempts |
