Latest official update
As of 7 October 2026, a separate SSC MTS 2026 notification has not been verified in the official MTS notice board reviewed for this guide. The latest confirmed MTS/Havaldar cycle is 2025, with examination and physical-test notices issued in 2026. New applicants should prepare using the clearly identified baseline below; the old form is closed.

What changed in this cycle?
The old September–October 2025 exam forecast has been superseded by the actual February 2026 CBE recorded in SSC’s result. The August result shortlisted Havaldar candidates for PET/PST; it did not establish a final combined MTS/Havaldar result. A calendar expectation alone is not a released notification.

Vacancies and posts
MTS is a Group C non-gazetted, non-ministerial post; Havaldar recruitment concerns CBIC and CBN. No vacancy total from the 2025 recruitment is presented here as a 2026 announcement. State/UT, age-group and category preferences matter when the new vacancy schedule is available.
Eligibility
The last verified notice required matriculation or equivalent by 1 August 2025. Its ordinary age bands were 18–25 and 18–27 on that date for the applicable posts, with prescribed relaxations. These reference dates belong to that recruitment. For 2026–27 planning, keep your Class 10 and category documents ready and check the next notice before deciding eligibility. Nationality and reservation conditions also apply.
Application process and fees
There is no verified fresh MTS application window to link as open. The previous notice charged ₹100, with exemption for women, SC/ST, eligible ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates under its terms. When SSC publishes the new notice, use its official registration process, confirm eligibility and preferences, review the form and save the acknowledgement. A preparation or coaching enquiry is not an SSC application.
Exam pattern
| Section | Questions / marks |
|---|---|
| Session I: Numerical and Mathematical Ability | 20 / 60 |
| Session I: Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving | 20 / 60 |
| Session II: General Awareness | 25 / 75 |
| Session II: English Language and Comprehension | 25 / 75 |
Each session lasts 45 minutes under the ordinary timing. Both sessions are mandatory. Session I has no negative marking and is qualifying; Session II deducts one mark for each wrong answer and provides the merit basis subject to the notification’s rules. Eligible candidates receive the prescribed compensatory time. This is the verified 2025 scheme, not an assertion that a fresh 2026 notice has adopted it.
Syllabus
Detailed guide: SSC MTS Syllabus: Subject-wise Preparation Reference
The verified baseline covers arithmetic, percentages, ratio, time/work, time/distance and basic data interpretation; reasoning, series, coding and problem solving; general awareness including history, geography, civics and science; and English vocabulary, grammar and comprehension. Use the MTS pattern guide alongside the subject list when planning timed practice.
Selection process
MTS selection uses the CBE and the notification’s merit, preference and eligibility rules. Havaldar additionally requires qualifying PET/PST. Do not tell every MTS applicant that a physical test is mandatory. Under the reviewed notice, the ordinary walking standards were 1,600 metres in 15 minutes for men and 1 kilometre in 20 minutes for women; physical standards and permitted relaxations must be checked in the applicable notice.
Salary and job profile
Detailed guide: SSC MTS Salary: Pay Level and Take-home Pay Explained
The verified MTS/Havaldar notice places the posts in Pay Level 1. Basic pay, allowances and take-home salary are different figures. Duties and posting depend on the allotted department; no salary or posting is guaranteed by this guide.
Preparation and previous papers
Practise Session I to clear the qualifying requirement while building accuracy in Session II, where negative marking affects merit. Keep an error log and review official syllabus coverage weekly. Use MTS eligibility guidance and exam-pattern guidance. Previous papers must retain their original exam dates.
