Starting basic pay, gross pay and in-hand salary
The lower figure in a listed pay range is its starting basic-pay figure; the upper figure is not the amount every new recruit receives. Basic pay is only one component of salary. Gross pay adds the allowances actually admissible to the employee. Take-home pay is the amount left after applicable deductions.
The recruitment notice does not establish one universal in-hand amount for every CHSL appointee. Posting, accommodation, the applicable allowance orders and individual deductions can change the calculation. For that reason, this guide does not publish an invented city-wise take-home table.
Why two DEO pay levels appear
SSC lists DEO at both Level 4 and Level 5, while DEO Grade A is listed at Level 4. Do not assume that every DEO vacancy carries Level 5 pay. Check the post code, department and pay level in the vacancy/preference information before making your choices.
Allowances and deductions: what to verify
Before comparing an appointment offer with a coaching-site salary estimate, ask the appointing department which allowance rates, accommodation conditions and deductions apply. A useful comparison records basic pay, admissible allowances, deductions and net pay separately. This is a checking method, not an official salary calculator.
- Identify the exact post and pay level first.
- Check the posting and government-accommodation position.
- Use the department’s applicable allowance and deduction orders.
- Read the appointment letter and subsequent payslip rather than treating a website estimate as an entitlement.
Posts, eligibility and preferences
CHSL 2026 recruits Group C LDC/JSA and Data Entry Operator posts. Pay level alone does not establish eligibility. Some DEO posts require Class 12 Science with Mathematics; the general Class 12 rule applies to the other posts specified in the notice. Read the linked eligibility guide before comparing salary.
SSC takes online post/department preferences before FRTA/result. A candidate is not considered for a post for which no preference has been indicated, and submitted preferences are treated as final under the notice. Compare duties, qualification requirements, location implications and pay together.
Promotion and future pay revisions
The CHSL notification does not promise a fixed promotion timeline or a future revised salary for every appointee. Career progression depends on the relevant department’s service rules and the employee’s circumstances. This page therefore does not claim an automatic promotion after a fixed number of years or advertise an unverified future pay-commission salary.
