Notification PDF and important dates

Read the official SSC CHSL 2026 notification (88-page PDF) before applying. Its original schedule leaves exam dates to a later notice; the 1 October schedule supplies the proposed Tier I window. Use that later schedule rather than the earlier tentative calendar.

The application and payment deadlines differ. An extra day for payment does not extend the application deadline. The time is 23:00, not 23:59. The correction window is for eligible completed applications, not new registrations. Check the SSC notice board and candidate login for amendments and individual exam details.

Vacancies and posts

Approximately 2,536 vacancies are tentative; the final total is to be determined later. The notice directs candidates to SSC’s Candidate’s Corner, Tentative Vacancy, for post/category updates. This guide does not present the initial figure as final or invent a state-wise distribution.

The posts are Lower Division Clerk/Junior Secretariat Assistant, Data Entry Operator and DEO Grade A. Check the eventual post/department list before giving preferences. The exam name alone does not establish eligibility for every post.

Eligibility and age limit

Standard age is 18–27 years on 1 August 2026, with specified relaxations. Class 12 or equivalent must be held by 7 October 2026. DEO/DEO Grade A posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC and Ministry of Culture require Science with Mathematics.

Nationality, disability suitability, documents and BRO-specific standards also matter. Read the full eligibility and relaxation guide before choosing posts.

How to apply, fee and corrections

  1. Open SSC’s official website and complete or use the required One-Time Registration on the current portal.
  2. Select CHSL 2026 and match personal, qualification and category entries to your documents.
  3. Follow the live-photograph, signature and document instructions in paragraph 9 and the annexures. Do not reuse another exam’s checklist.
  4. Choose three exam centres in priority order within the same region. Preferences do not guarantee allotment.
  5. Preview and submit before the application deadline; pay if required before the separate fee deadline.
  6. Check application/payment status and save the submitted form and transaction record.

The application fee is ₹100. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen eligible for reservation are exempt. EWS or OBC status alone is not a fee exemption. Non-exempt applications remaining incomplete because SSC has not received the fee can be rejected.

Eligible candidates can correct and resubmit at most twice during 14–16 October. The first correction costs ₹200, the second ₹500, regardless of gender/category. Completed applications and applicable fees must have been received within the specified period.

Exam pattern and syllabus

Tier I has 100 questions for 200 marks across English, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. Standard timing is 15 minutes per subject, totalling 60 minutes. Wrong answers deduct 0.50 marks.

Tier II Session I covers Maths, Reasoning, English, General Awareness and Computer Knowledge, with subject timers specified in the notice. Wrong answers deduct 1 mark. Session II contains the applicable Skill/Typing Test. Computer Knowledge and Skill/Typing are qualifying but still required.

Use the exam-pattern tables and subject-wise syllabus. They distinguish ordinary timing from compensatory-time provisions.

Selection and cut-off interpretation

Tier I determines shortlisting for Tier II. Final merit uses Tier II Sections I and II, subject to qualifying Sections III and IV and other conditions. Submit post preferences in the prescribed period. User departments verify documents after the final result.

Minimum qualifying percentages are not recruitment cut-offs. This guide does not predict a 2026 cut-off or reuse a previous cycle’s marks as a current threshold. Historical cut-offs and papers must retain their original cycle and post group.

Use SSC’s login and notices for individual admission certificates, response sheets, answer keys and results. The documents reviewed here do not establish a current-cycle result or answer-key release date. The notification describes admission-certificate availability around 2–3 days before the examination; confirm your own details through SSC.

Editorial preparation advice: follow the syllabus, practise subject timers, review errors and start typing/computer preparation early. Older papers remain useful, but their original years must be retained and they do not prove the current pattern.

Preparing for SSC CHSL 2027?

The verified rules on this page belong to the 2026 recruitment cycle. They can guide early preparation for 2027, but do not confirm 2027 dates, vacancies, age cut-offs or eligibility. We have not verified a 2027 notification in this review. Recheck this permanent guide when SSC publishes the next cycle’s notice; do not calculate future eligibility by simply adding one year.
