SSC CGL Eligibility 2026: Age Limits and Post-wise Qualifications

SSC CGL 2026 age limits, birth dates, qualifications, JSO and Statistical Investigator rules, and State Cadre language requirements from SSC.

At a glance

Source review: 6 October 2026. The facts below are checked against SSC’s 2026 notification and the later notices specifically linked. A recruitment year is not changed merely because a result or examination falls in another calendar year.

SSC CGL eligibility 2026: age and essential educational qualifications are assessed on 1 August 2026. CGL does not have one age range or one qualification rule for every post. The specific post code and department matter.

Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer — State CadreBachelor’s degree plus the specified regional/official-language proficiency and Secondary School level certificate
Junior Statistical Officer (JSO)Bachelor’s degree in any subject with at least 60% in Mathematics at Class 12; OR a bachelor’s degree with Statistics as a degree-level subject
Statistical Investigator Grade IIBachelor’s degree in one of the specific subjects listed below
Other postsBachelor’s degree from a recognized University or equivalent

State Cadre audit/accounts language requirement

For Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer in the State Cadre, the notice requires the ability to read, write, speak and understand the State’s regional/official language with matriculation-level proficiency. It also requires a certificate of proficiency at Secondary School Examination level from a recognized State/Central Board. Do not omit this when presenting the posts as graduate-level opportunities.

Professional or postgraduate qualifications listed in paragraph 8.1 are desirable, not a replacement for the essential requirements. Direct recruits must also qualify the specified Subordinate Audit/Accounts Service Examination during probation for confirmation and regular appointment.

Statistical Investigator Grade II: specified degree subjects

Paragraph 8.3 lists Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Demography, Population Studies, Operation Research, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Technology, Computer Application, Data Science or Artificial Intelligence. Do not substitute the JSO rule or an older-cycle Statistics-only condition for this list.

Final-year and distance-learning candidates

Final-year candidates could apply subject to possessing the essential qualification by 1 August 2026. The result must have been declared and the candidate declared passed by that date; a result merely being processed is insufficient. Documentary proof is required at verification.

Open/distance qualifications are subject to recognition for the relevant period and the conditions in paragraphs 8.6–8.7. Equivalent qualifications require the relevant equivalence certificate, with the appointing authority making the final decision.

Nationality, physical standards and documents

The nationality clause covers Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal or Bhutan and the specified persons of Indian origin migrating from the countries listed in paragraph 4. The latter categories require a Government of India eligibility certificate before appointment. Only male candidates are eligible for BRO vacancies, if reported.

Some inspector, sub-inspector and BRO posts have physical/medical requirements. Failing the standards of an allotted post does not create a right to a different post. Check the post notes and Annexures XV–XVI before giving preferences. Keep original birth-date, degree, category and any post-specific qualification evidence.

Frequently asked questions

Is the CGL age limit 18–32 for everyone?

No. The notice has four post-specific ranges; 18–32 applies to JSO.

Is graduation alone sufficient for every post?

No. JSO, Statistical Investigator and State Cadre audit/accounts posts have specific requirements.

Can a result declared after 1 August satisfy the 2026 qualification cut-off?

The notice requires qualification by 1 August 2026. A result merely under processing by that date is insufficient.

Preparing for SSC CGL 2027?

No CGL 2027 notification has been verified in this review. Use the current syllabus for early preparation, but do not treat 2026 age dates, qualifications, vacancies, deadlines or paper rules as confirmed 2027 requirements. This permanent guide will retain its URL when the next official cycle is researched.
