SSC CGL Salary 2026: Post-wise Pay Levels 4 to 8

SSC CGL 2026 basic-pay ranges and example posts at Levels 4–8, with official sources and a clear distinction from take-home salary.

At a glance

Source review: 6 October 2026. The facts below are checked against SSC’s 2026 notification and the later notices specifically linked. A recruitment year is not changed merely because a result or examination falls in another calendar year.

SSC CGL salary 2026: posts in the notification span Pay Levels 4–8. The listed starting basic-pay figures range from ₹25,500 to ₹47,600, depending on the post. They are not universal take-home amounts.

Pay levels and illustrative posts

Basic-pay ranges from paragraph 2 of the official notice
LevelBasic-pay rangeExamples
Level 8₹47,600–₹1,51,100Assistant Audit Officer / Assistant Accounts Officer
Level 7₹44,900–₹1,42,400Specified ASO and Inspector posts; CBI Sub-Inspector
Level 6₹35,400–₹1,12,400JSO, Statistical Investigator Grade II, Divisional Accountant and other listed posts
Level 5₹29,200–₹92,300Auditor / Accountant / Junior Accountant
Level 4₹25,500–₹81,100Postal/Sorting Assistant, Tax Assistant, specified SSA/UDC posts

These examples summarize the post tables, not every vacancy. Check the exact department and post code: an Assistant/ASO title appears at different levels. Do not choose a pay level from the job title alone.

Basic pay versus gross and in-hand salary

Basic pay is the pay-matrix component. Gross pay includes the allowances actually admissible to the employee. In-hand pay is the amount after applicable deductions. The top of a pay range is not a promise of starting salary.

The recruitment notice does not specify a single in-hand figure across postings. Accommodation, applicable allowance orders and individual deductions affect the calculation. This guide therefore does not reuse old DA/HRA percentages or present an unsourced city-wise salary estimate as an entitlement.

How to compare posts before giving preferences

  1. Identify the department, cadre, post code and pay level in SSC’s tables.
  2. Check qualification, age, language and physical/medical requirements.
  3. Review the duties and posting implications using the department’s official material.
  4. Check allowances and deductions applicable to your appointment rather than a generic online estimate.
  5. Submit preferences only for posts whose conditions you understand.

SSC’s post notes warn that failing an allotted post’s requirements does not lead to a change of post. Salary should therefore be only one part of a preference decision.

Vacancies and pay are different facts

The 24 September 2026 tentative vacancy statement totals 10,731 posts. It explicitly says final vacancies may vary. A revised vacancy count does not by itself alter the pay level attached to a post. Use both the notice and the latest vacancy table when checking available choices.

Promotion and future salary claims

The notification does not promise a fixed promotion timeline or a future pay-commission increase for every recruit. Service rules, departmental requirements and individual circumstances matter. Verify any such claim against the applicable government order or department, rather than adding a speculative percentage to these pay levels.
