Important 2027 evaluation rules
The 2027 brochure uses a Part A shortlist rule involving 6,400 candidates and category thresholds, with ties potentially increasing the total. Part B is evaluated only for shortlisted candidates. Read section 17 before comparing this cycle with an old score or cut-off: qualification requires the applicable Part B threshold as well.
Official brochure and application portal
The UCEED 2027 information brochure contains the complete eligibility, examination, evaluation and admission provisions. The official 2027 website publishes changes; its important-dates page separates exam events from B.Des admission rounds.

Participating institutes and seats
The official route covers IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Roorkee and IIITDM Jabalpur. The brochure’s seat table is labelled for 2026–27; it should not be presented as a final 2027–28 seat total. Use the current admission seat matrix when available.
Compare the design curriculum, studio access, living costs and the type of projects you want to pursue. For fashion-focused options, compare our NIFT entrance guide before deciding which preparation and applications fit your goals.
UCEED 2027 eligibility
Birth-date cut-offs are 1 October 2002 for OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL and 1 October 1997 for SC/ST/PwD. Maximum attempts: two consecutive years. The normal first-Class-12-appearance years are 2026 or 2027, any stream. A specific exception covers boards whose 2024–25 results were declared on or after 30 September 2025; read the complete conditions in section 7.
For admission, the brochure’s table lists any stream for IIT Bombay/Delhi/Hyderabad/Indore, PCM for Guwahati/Roorkee, and PCM or PCB for IIITDM Jabalpur. A nearby general paragraph is less explicit about Jabalpur’s Biology route; PCB applicants should obtain clarification from the UCEED office before relying on that option.
How to register and fee planning
For Indian nationals, the regular fee is ₹2,000 for female/SC/ST/PwD candidates and ₹4,000 for others, excluding applicable charges. Other nationalities and OCI/PIO situations have separate rules. Use the brochure’s fee table for your exact case.
- Confirm all three exam-eligibility criteria and shortlist courses for which your subjects qualify.
- Use the official candidate portal and enter details matching your documents.
- Upload the required files, check category and examination-city selections, and complete payment.
- Save confirmation and check the portal for admit-card updates.
- If qualified, submit the separate B.Des admission application within its window.
UCEED 2027 exam pattern
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Part A | 2 hours; 200 marks; 57 questions |
| Question types | Numerical answer, multiple-select and multiple-choice |
| Part B | 1 hour; 100 marks |
| Part B tasks | One sketching and one design-aptitude question, 50 marks each |
The Part A question types have different marking rules. Practise reading whether a question allows several correct options before selecting an answer. Do not apply one uniform negative-marking rule to the entire test.
Syllabus and preparation
The brochure’s syllabus includes visual and spatial reasoning, observation, practical/scientific understanding, environment and society, analytical reasoning, language and creativity. Part B develops sketching and responses to design situations. Read the official topic list before building a weekly plan.
Alternate computer-style timed practice with pencil-and-paper work. For drawing, study proportion, perspective and communicating an idea clearly. For design tasks, identify the user, the problem and constraints before sketching a solution. Review whether your response answers the brief, not merely whether it looks attractive.
Results, cut-offs and B.Des admission
A rank enables the next application stage; it does not reserve a seat. Submit the admission application, set preferences, follow allotment instructions and meet payment and reporting deadlines. Check institution-specific qualification rules before including a choice.
Part A shortlisting, examination qualification and a college’s final closing rank answer different questions. Do not treat any one of them as a guaranteed admission score. Compare prior ranks within the same category, institution and round only.
Admit card, answer key and preparation checklist
Download the admit card from the candidate portal and check identity details promptly. Follow the published process for discrepancies and draft-key comments. Save response information while the portal makes it available. For choosing among programmes, use our college comparison checklist alongside the institutions’ own course pages.
Build a design shortlist before seat allocation
Read the IIT Delhi profile for one participating institution, then inspect its BDes curriculum rather than comparing engineering branch information. Use the design and media guide to record studio access, assessment, materials and living costs.
The official registration instructions state that the examination fee is neither refundable nor transferable. Prepare the Class 12 and category documents for your exact situation before payment; an incomplete registration can be rejected. This examination payment does not replace the later BDes admission application.
Official sources
This guide uses IIT Bombay’s linked 2027 website, important-dates page and information brochure. The identified Jabalpur wording difference is retained explicitly rather than silently resolving an official-document ambiguity.
