SSC JE Syllabus 2026: Engineering, IMD and Telecom Subjects

SSC JE 2026 branch-wise syllabus for Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, IMD and Telecom, with the official PDF and Paper I/Paper II subject map.

At a glance

Source review: 6 October 2026. This guide uses the official JE 2026 notification and identifies later notices where relevant. Scientific Assistant in IMD and JE Telecom have distinct qualification and subject provisions in this cycle.

SSC JE syllabus 2026: the notice covers Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering plus Computer Science/IT, Electronics/Telecommunication, Physics and Telecom routes. Select the subject corresponding to your eligibility and application, rather than preparing every branch.

Paper I common subjects

General Intelligence and Reasoning includes analogies, classification, relationships, series, spatial visualization, analytical problem solving and verbal/non-verbal tasks. General Awareness covers current events, everyday scientific observation and India/neighbouring countries, including history, culture, geography, economy, general polity and scientific research.

Civil and Structural Engineering

Core areas include engineering mechanics, solid mechanics, structural analysis, construction materials/management, estimating/costing/valuation, concrete and steel structures, surveying, geotechnical engineering, fluid mechanics/hydraulics, hydrology/irrigation, environmental engineering and transportation/traffic engineering. The Paper II syllabus expands these into detailed subtopics in paragraph 14.3.1.

Electrical Engineering

Cover electrical fundamentals, magnetic circuits, AC fundamentals, measurement/instruments, electrical machines, special machines/synchronous generators, generation/transmission/distribution, estimation/costing, utilization, basic electronics and power electronics. Follow paragraph 14.3.2 for the detailed Paper II scope.

Mechanical Engineering

The indicative areas are engineering mechanics, strength of materials, theory of machines, machine design, materials science, thermal engineering, fluids/hydraulic machinery, industrial engineering, manufacturing, metrology/measurement and advanced manufacturing processes. The detailed Paper II section is paragraph 14.3.3.

IMD: Computer Science and Information Technology

Part D includes engineering mathematics, digital logic, computer organization/architecture, programming/data structures, algorithms, theory of computation, compiler design, operating systems, databases and computer networks. This is a subject route for IMD, subject to the qualification/addendum conditions.

IMD: Electronics and Telecommunication

Part E covers electronic materials/components, diodes/transistors, amplifiers/oscillators, regulation, networks, AC/three-phase/resonant circuits, digital logic and conversion/codes; plus antennas, propagation, spectrum, modulation, multiplexing, digital communication and RF/wireless communication.

IMD: Physics

Part F lists mathematical methods, mechanics, properties of matter, oscillations/waves, optics, electricity/magnetism, kinetic theory/thermodynamics, modern and solid-state physics, semiconductor devices, and analog/digital electronics. Read the detailed Paper II topics in paragraph 14.3.6.

JE Telecom

Part G covers engineering mathematics, network analysis, signals/systems, electronic devices, analog/digital circuits, control systems, analog/digital communications and electromagnetics. Do not confuse this Telecom route with the IMD Part E option: the notice assigns them different parts and application choices.

Standard, official PDF and preparation

The notice sets approximately diploma level for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical subjects, and approximately graduation level for Computer Science/IT, Electronics/Telecommunication, Physics and Telecom. Paper II has detailed branch-specific subtopics in paragraphs 14.3.1–14.3.7; use the complete PDF as a checklist.

Editorial advice: diagnose gaps by the official topic list, practise objective technical questions, maintain an error notebook and revise common Paper I subjects. SSC does not guarantee chapter-wise weightage; avoid treating a coaching estimate as a fixed distribution.

Frequently asked questions

Is the syllabus limited to three engineering branches?

No. The 2026 notice also covers the IMD subject routes and Telecom.

Must an IMD candidate study all D, E and F subjects?

The notice requires one opted subject matching the application and eligible stream.

Are all technical questions diploma level?

No. The notice describes graduation-level standards for Computer Science/IT, Electronics/Telecommunication, Physics and Telecom.

Preparing for the 2027 cycle

No JE 2027 notification has been verified in this review. The verified rules here belong to 2026. Use them for early preparation, but recheck future eligibility, vacancies, dates and subject choices against the next official notification. Historical papers retain their original examination years.
