Notification and important clarifications
Official JE 2026 notification (97-page PDF); 10 September IMD qualification addendum; 17 September deadline reminder. The addendum matters because the IMD route-2 degrees also require Class XII Physics and Mathematics.
The expanded subject routes and the Paper II merit rule are reasons to use the actual 2026 document rather than relabelling a Civil/Mechanical/Electrical-only old guide.
Vacancies, posts and pay
The notification’s 1,748 vacancies are tentative. The post tables cover Junior Engineer posts across listed departments, JE Telecom in DoT and Scientific Assistant in IMD. The opening paragraph places the posts in Group B, Pay Level 6, ₹35,400–₹1,12,400 basic pay.
Do not treat the tentative total as a final allocation or the pay range as a fixed in-hand salary. See the salary guide.
Eligibility and IMD amendment
Age is assessed on 1 August 2026, with upper-age groups of 30 or 32 according to the post. Qualifications and required experience must be held by 22 September 2026. Some diploma routes require experience acquired after completing the qualification.
The 10 September addendum gives two IMD Scientific Assistant routes: (1) a bachelor’s degree in Science with Physics as a subject; or (2) a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electronics Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering, from a recognized institution/university.
Route 2 also requires Class XII with Physics and Mathematics from a recognized Board. Do not omit that condition or treat an arbitrary diploma as an IMD qualification. The addendum keeps the upper-age limit at 30 years.
Use the full eligibility table for department-specific branches, experience and restrictions.
Application and corrections
Applications closed on 22 September at 23:00, online fee payment on 23 September at 23:00, and corrections on 30 September at 23:00. The correction charges were ₹200 then ₹500 for the two permitted resubmissions. These are past deadlines; the site does not provide a late-registration route.

Exam pattern and final merit
| Paper | Questions / marks | Duration | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper I | Reasoning 50/50 + General Awareness 50/50 + opted subject 100/100 = 200 questions / 200 marks | 2 hours | Qualifying for shortlisting to Paper II |
| Paper II | Opted subject: 100 questions / 300 marks | 2 hours | Normalized Paper II scores determine final merit, subject to selection conditions |
Paper I wrong answers deduct 0.25 marks; Paper II deducts 1 mark. Both papers are objective CBE. SSC provides an on-screen scientific calculator; physical calculators/tables are prohibited. See the full scheme.
Syllabus and subject selection
| Part | Route | Subject |
|---|---|---|
| A | JE Civil | Civil and Structural Engineering |
| B | JE Electrical | Electrical Engineering |
| C | JE Mechanical | Mechanical Engineering |
| D / E / F | Scientific Assistant, IMD | One opted subject: Computer Science/IT, Electronics/Telecommunication, or Physics |
| G | JE Telecom | Telecommunication |
The syllabus guide covers all routes. Engineering standards and IMD/Telecom standards are not identical; the notification gives diploma-level and graduation-level distinctions.
Admission certificates, results and papers
The JE notice gives a 3–4-day admission-certificate download interval before examination, with city/timetable information about ten days before. Check individual details on SSC and read the document checklist.
No 2026 result date or cut-off is verified in this guide. Keep prior-cycle results and papers labelled with their actual years. An old PDF’s questions may remain useful, but its merit/timing instructions do not override the 2026 notice.
